Creating Custom SmartCert Field Labels
Quick guide to customizing SmartCert Field Labels
SmartCert provides each account with a default layout that companies can edit or copy and modify for their use. You can also create your own default company-wide layout for every SmartCert you create and send.
See: Customize Your SmartCert Layout
What if you want fields to appear differently for a specific cert or certs to match customer-specific terminology (such specifications for an overseas supplier) before generating a PDF or sharing a SmartCert externally?
Using the Field Label Modifier, you can change a field's label on an individual SmartCert — without affecting the standard layout used across the rest of the organization. The Field Label Modifier applies only to the specific SmartCert it's configured on.
You can modify field labels for individual certs in a few simple steps:
Step 1: Open the Layout Menu
- Navigate to the SmartCert you wish to modify. Ensure you are on the main edit screen.
- Locate the Modify dropdown menu in the upper right corner of the top navigation bar.
Step 2: Switch to Layout Mode
- Click the Modify dropdown menu.
- Select Layout from the list of options. This will adjust the design interface of your SmartCert, allowing you to add, remove, or rename sections and fields.
Step 3: Customize Your Layout
- Once you are in Layout mode, you can modify any of the field labels. Remember, the label serves as the header for your data column or field. SmartCert AI uses it as the initial search term. Tip: Keep it concise but specific (e.g., use MTR Heat Number instead of just Number). Make sure there is a description under the label to give the AI context specific to the data you want it to look for.

Note: Once you are satisfied with your layout changes, you must return to the standard editing mode to save your changes.
