SmartCert for ITAR Parts

Quick guide to SmartCert for ITAR Parts

How do I create a SmartCert for my ITAR parts?

SmartCert supports ITAR-controlled parts and documentation by operating within Microsoft Azure Government GCC High, an environment specifically designed to meet U.S. government security and compliance requirements, including ITAR.

All ITAR-designated SmartCerts are handled in a way that preserves the same level of control and restriction you apply to the physical parts themselves.

How ITAR is supported in SmartCert
  • GCC High environment
SmartCert is hosted in Azure Government GCC High, where data is isolated within U.S. sovereign cloud infrastructure and accessed only by authorized U.S. persons, supporting ITAR compliance requirements.

  • Role-based access controls
Only users with ITAR permissions enabled in SmartCert can view ITAR-designated SmartCerts and their associated documents.

  • Restricted visibility
ITAR SmartCerts are obscured from non-ITAR users. These users cannot see the SmartCert details, documents, or metadata—think of ITAR SmartCerts as being placed behind a digitally locked door where only approved keyholders have access.

Before you create an ITAR SmartCert
  • Ensure your user account has ITAR security enabled.
If you are not an admin, request ITAR permissions from your company’s SmartCert administrator.

Creating an ITAR SmartCert
  • Creating an ITAR SmartCert follows the same workflow as a standard SmartCert.

  • The difference is access control: the SmartCert is automatically restricted to users with ITAR permissions.

  • Follow your company’s internal guidelines for:

    • Which data fields should be completed

    • Which documents should be uploaded for ITAR-controlled parts

After the SmartCert is created
  • The SmartCert and its documents will not be visible to:

    • Internal team members without ITAR permissions

    • External recipients who do not have ITAR access enabled

  • Confirm that your customer’s point of contact has the appropriate ITAR permissions in SmartCert so they can receive and review the secure SmartCert without delay.
